Our history

Our history is inextricably linked to the man after whom we are named: journalist Wim van Luyken. His vision of the communications consultancy profession is still reflected in the way we work today. Wim observed keenly, put things into perspective, asked questions and always placed issues in a broader context. He was open and curious about what was going on in the world.

It all began in 1978

Wim had a clear vision of our profession. That’s why, in May 1978, at the age of 32, he started his own agency. He got off to a flying start by quickly gaining the loyalty of major brands. Our name soon appeared at the top of the list of leading agencies in public relations and public affairs. In the years that followed, Van Luyken took over other parties and developed, among other things, the secondment service that we still offer today.

Strategic communications advice

Throughout our history, we have experienced the only constant in our profession: change. More training courses became available, more expertise was offered and online communications radically changed the playing field. We anticipated all these changes early on and focused on strategic communications advice.

Where other agencies disappeared or were swallowed up by international networks, Van Luyken remained independent and continued to perform consistently. We developed new services, such as De Trainingsstudio, joined the international partner network PROI and welcomed even more national and international clients.

Faithful to our roots

For 45 years we have moved with the spirit of the times while remaining faithful to the ideas of our founder: dare to be curious and critical. Because even today, Wim’s vision of strategic communication has retained its relevance.
